National Food Strategy

We are not interested in politics & whole government reports are not our preferred summer reading & I doubt yours either.

However the executive summary is only 3 pages, about the length of a cup of coffee. If you think about what you eat, how it’s grown or made & implications for the countryside it’s worth reading.

Here at Provenance we don’t agree with every recommendation, but the authors were promoting plenty of ideas we could endorse:

  • Processed ingredients & additives hidden in so much of our food are far to easily consumed & have huge health impacts.

  • Cheap food & year round choice is amazing but the industrial farming which enables it is disastrous in environmental & animal welfare terms.

  • There is a need to support & promote farmers who take a financial hit to produce high welfare, low impact food.

Since opening these ideas have been central to our thoughts on cooking, purchasing & partnerships. They inspired our SIMPLE, SEASONAL, BEAUTIFUL ethos which sits at the heart of our business & the choices we make.
